Car - Michigan car thieves still prefer the Big Three
Michigan car thieves still prefer the Big Three
When it comes to auto brands, Michigan thieves prefer to not-buy American. And minivans.
The ten most-stolen cars in Michigan during 2008 were all Big Three products, according to data released today by the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
Topping that list is the 1996 Dodge Caravan, the third-generation of the ubiquitous family minivan. The 1998 model of it's Plymouth equivalent, the Voyager, also made the top ten.
1. 1996 Dodge Caravan
2. 2000 Dodge Intrepid
3. 2000 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee
4. 1997 Ford Taurus
5. 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup
6. 1998 Plymouth Voyager
7. 2001 Dodge Stratus
8. 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass
9. 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix
10. 2006 Dodge Durango
The rest of the nation, however, preferred to steal foreign, with Honda and Toyota taking the top three spots.
1. 1994 Honda Accord
2. 1995 Honda Civic
3. 1989 Toyota Camry
4. 1997 Ford F-150 Pickup
5. 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup
6. 2000 Dodge Caravan
7. 1996 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee
8. 1994 Acura Integra
9. 1999 Ford Taurus
10. 2002 Ford Explorer
As the NCIB notes in it's release, certain "models of older cars and trucks are popular with thieves because of the value of their parts."
The FBI's preliminary 2008 Uniform Crime Report indicates that vehicle theft in 2008 may have fallen by as much as 13.1 percent from 2007 and could fall below one million vehicles for the first time in more than 20 years.

Latest Car News :World's fastest fire engine From Nissan
The car that set a lap time of 7 minutes 27.56 seconds at the Nurburgring circuit, has been appointed as the the track’s Rapid Response Vehicle. The Nordschliefe circuit needs a quick emergency response vehicle, since it is over 20 kilometers long. A fire truck may take too long to reach a specific location, and a lot cars are being tested there these days. This means, things like accidents and fire are inevitable.
So, ‘who’ else to turn to, other than the Nissan GTR? The reworked GTR you see above is equipped with fire retardant tank (placed at the rear passenger area), a hose reel and other relevant equipments. It also features a full roll cage as well as Recaro carbon fiber seats, apart from the visible visual upgrades.
Car - New Jaguar XF Station Wagon
New Jaguar XF Station Wagon
New Jaguar XF Station Wagon to appear in September Show?
More rumours are circulating on the net regarding Jaguar possibly launching a station wagon (or Estate as the UK like to call it) version of the fantastic XF model.
The Image above is a photoshop job unfortunately but it's a very good effort, ans shows just how an XF station wagon could look. The image is taken from Auto Express magazine who have a varying reputation for their "scoops" -some extremely accurate, some less so - but we like this one so we thought we'd show it - you can find a link to the original article below.
It runs along the lines that the only other station wagon version of a Jaguar ever launched - the X-Type, was more of a lifestyle car rather than a true load lugger, and it's expected that the XF would follow the same thinking, and have similar space to say a BMW 5 series rather than the more spacious Audi A6 Avant.
Rumours suggest Jaguar could show this car at the Frankfurt motor show in Germany in September, but with the new Jaguar XJ so close to launch, it may be doubtful that Jaguar would show 2 new products at the same show, so the XF Station Wagon may have to wait until next year. With sales of big SUV's dropping in the US, this has prompted many buyers back into station wagon models, which may be what has prompted Jaguar to look again at this model.

When Should You Visit a Transmission Repair Specialist?
Most people drive their cars every day but still don't know how they work. Sometimes drivers will even ignore obvious problems with their vehicles, hoping they will go away on their own or that it isn't something serious. Only when the car stops working altogether do they visit a mechanic in a panic! Issues with a car's transmission can mean serious problems down the road if they are not attended to quickly.
In layman's terms, a transmission transfers the power created by the engine to the drive line and wheels: this can be done either manually (as with a stick shift) or automatically.

Most people drive their cars every day but still don’t know how they work. Sometimes drivers will even ignore obvious problems with their vehicles, hoping they will go away on their own or that it isn’t something serious. Only when the car stops working altogether do they visit a mechanic in a panic! Issues with a car’s transmission can mean serious problems down the road if they are not attended to quickly.
In layman’s terms, a transmission transfers the power created by the engine to the drive line and wheels: this can be done either manually (as with a stick shift) or automatically.
Here are some of the symptoms of transmission problems and how to know when it’s time to visit a transmission repair specialist.
– Problems shifting gears: since the transmission’s job is to keep up the momentum of the car by shifting gears, it stands to reason that any problems with gear change may be stemming from the transmission. The symptoms could be an unusual noise made by the transmission during a shift, or, if you drive a stick, it may not glide smoothly between gears.
– The car makes a jerking movement or the engine surges at inopportune times. The jerking movement could indicate that the engine’s power is not being smoothly transferred when a shift needs to occur.
– Transmission fluid is leaking. Transmission fluid acts as a lubricant for all of the moving parts inside your car’s transmission. Just as the engine cannot run right without oil, the transmission will not work right without fluid. Transmission fluid is generally reddish in color, so if you see any on the ground under your chassis, get help right away before a costly disaster happens.
– The car won’t move. If your car starts up ok, it just refuses to move, the problem is likely to be with the transmission. You’ll need to have it towed to a shop where their mechanics can advise you on what to do next.
All car drivers should have a working knowledge of how their vehicle works and what the symptoms are for certain problems that may arise. If you suspect your transmission is to blame, take it to a mechanic: it does not necessarily mean it has to be replaced. The problem may just be a minor one; but one thing’s for sure: transmissions do not fix themselves!

Car - Road Test Review: 2009 Nissan Maxima
Road Test Review: 2009 Nissan Maxima
2009 Nissan Maxima
NADAguides.com
The 2009 Nissan Maxima is a well-balanced, well-equipped and well, a great value for one of America’s favorite mid-size sedans. The Maxima won’t necessarily stand out in a crowd of cars, but that’s not the intention for the Maxima. The car was built to be driven - period. Not too hard and not too soft, this daily driver has enough room to comfortably seat four adults and enough horsepower to give it a slight air of sportiness.
The Maxima is Nissan’s true flagship vehicle. I know many would like to debate that the Z is their flagship, but I would argue that the Maxima has been Nissan’s mainstay and most consistent vehicle over the years.
What I love most about the Maxima is the roominess, particularly with the passenger seats. Many of today’s cars have small second row seating, but you can always count on a spacious interior with the Maxima. With a starting price of $30,160, it comes equipped with most standard features like 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, a 6-CD changer audio system, keyless entry and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.
The tire and wheel package are also something to get excited about. Nissan takes great pride in developing a sporty wheel with a slightly larger diameter size, which gives the car a performance-oriented stance and clean look. The tire package also fills the wheel wells nicely so you don’t have that uncomfortable gap that screams, “larger wheels and tires please.”
The exterior of the Maxima is clean and Nissan carries over many of the design cues from its other models. With the physical size of the Altima getting larger over the years, there are times I can’t tell the two apart because their lines are so similar.
Although the Maxima fits into the crowded sea of mid-size sedans, there is one differentiation point that separates it from the pack. Nissan knows better than any other automaker how to combine the right amount of balance between ordinary and sporty. The driving experience is comfortable, but because of the 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine, the Maxima can get down right sporty if the conditions are right.
As noted above, a V6 engine producing 290 hp and 261 ft-lbs. of torque is powering the Maxima. The automatic transmission in the vehicle we tested comes with steering-wheel mounted shifters, which add to the performance factor.
Safety is also a priority with Nissan. The Maxima has a 5 Star crash test rating and comes complete with dual front, side, and overhead airbags.
The Nissan Maxima has an MSRP of $30,160 and the price as tested is $32,860.

Car - Suzuki Kizashi Indian fate to be determined by 2011
Suzuki Kizashi Indian fate to be determined by 2011
If we were Suzuki, the eye-catching/mind-boggling Kizashi would have been here. In fact by now, Honda would have scampered back to the drawing board to make a new Accord and Toyota would have likely slashed Camry prices. Segment leader Skoda Superb would have been discontinued, and the company would have declared competing in this segment was not viable anymore. As we are not Suzuki, sadly, the Kizashi isn't here. It won't be here anytime soon we're told. Suzuki officials have confirmed that they will take the final call on the Kizashi's Indian inning in the next two years. They say there would be no point in launching it here if the demands are not satisfactory, a lesson they learned by launching models like the Vitara, Versa and the Baleno. The 2.4-liter engined Kizashi is the Japanese car manufacturer's first time model in the segments ruled by Honda, Toyota, Mercedes and BMW. The Kizashi uses the old and effective formula - every other feature, at a price less than anything else - a similar formula adopted by the successful Hyundai in conquering European and other far away lands. Suzuki is known for its powerful spine chilling Gixxers and Hayabusas. In Europe, you would relate Suzuki to the Alto or the fun Swift. In India, you would relate them to the 800 and Omni, two cars that bolted wheels to India. When such a car maker opts in to play in the segment where there are no prisoners, you start to question to ideology behind the move. Sure, you could give a dozen airbags and a 1000 kilograms of electronics, but would the Americans, who love their Mercs and Beemers, want to trip in Suzuki luxury sedan?

McLaren Automotive plans to launch "eco-friendly" Supercar in two years
The soon to be independent McLaren Automotive plans to launch what it calls an "eco-friendly" supercar in two years. McLaren Group CEO Ron Dennis announced on Thursday that the company was being restructured and the road car division would be spun off later this year as an separate company as it winds down production of the Mercedes SLR. Dennis is stepping aside from the Formula One race team to focus on bringing a new range of sports cars to market, including the car currently code named P11.
The P11 is expected to cost about $275,000 when it launches and will incorporate technology from the racing side. Like the original McLaren F1 of the 90s, the P11 is expected to be made largely of carbon fiber to keep weight to a minimum. The new car is also expected to incorporate the KERS hybrid drive system being developed by the formula one team in order to improve both the efficiency and performance of the car.

Car - Getting Car Insurance for Your Antique Collectors Car
Getting Car Insurance for Your Antique Collectors Car
By Elizabeth Newberry
Getting car insurance for your antique collector’s car is not the same as buying insurance for your everyday car. The insurance for collector’s cars is different than other auto insurance. Every antique car collector should know a few things about antique car insurance.
First, your state is going to have specific laws as to how old your car has to be to qualify for antique car insurance. Also, in order to qualify for antique car insurance you must have another car that you use as your regular car, and a garage to park your antique in.
Traditional car insurance pays the actual cash value of the vehicle. Actual cash value is the cost of replacing the car minus the cost of depreciation. This is a poor choice for antique car owners, because it does not incorporate the appreciation of a collector’s item.
Another form of traditional car insurance covers the stated value of the car. Antique car insurance is a specialty insurance that pays the agreed value of the car. It’s a win-win situation for the car collector! A little education can save the antique car owner a lot of money and frustration when purchasing car insurance for their collectible.

Rally Malaysia
Flights are booked and paid for, and I leave in exactly a month!
How insane is that?
I haven't been out of the country in something like eight years and a month before my trip everything is finalised. I feel a little weird, like it's not enough time to get truly excited.
It is certainly a busy month anyway.
This weekend coming I will be competing in the Teng Tools Dual Sprint at the Taupo track in Dad's Baleno. From that weekend onwards I have two weeks off tech, the last weekend of this will be the Rally of the Far North - if they get enough entries to run. Not sure what my involvement in that is though, I may not go. After that I'm back to tech after having hopefully done a lot of work to make up for the week that I'm going to miss while in Malaysia. The 3rd to 5th of October is the first Tier One Summer Series meet, to which I will be seeing if I will be getting my first proper paid team pr gig. And then two days after that, on the 8th of October, I leave for Singapore!
Oh and I have to catch up with the teams going over and get in touch with different publications to publish my content!
